Project Kit Winner

Sorry that I’m posting this a day late! Prior obligations have messed with my work schedule! Don’t you hate when that happens?

Anyways, I’ve got the name of the winner for my Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Project Kit! The winner is…

*Drumroll*

“I love these! All your ideas are fabulous. I would use these to decorate gift bags and purses, baby headbands for my new nieces, embellishments on blankets, a pin for my jacket – I think I need to buy another box of fabric!”

Congratulations to Shelley for winning this My Paper Moose giveaway! I’ll be contacting you shortly for your shipping information so I can get your project kit on its way!

Thanks to everyone who left comments, too! I was sad I didn’t get more participation. I guess my fabric flowers were more exciting to me than to everyone else…LOL. But hey, that happens, right? So a HUGE thank you to those who were awesome and left a comment for me!

Coming Up: I’ve got some Christmas stuff heading your way! Cue that inappropriately early Christmas music!

Until next time…

Flowery Finish

Okay, so this will be my last post obsessing about Spice Cake Designer Fabric flowers. I promise! I just used some of the remaining flowers I had made to whip up these two cards as a couple more examples of how you can use the flowers as embellishments.

Of course, the flowers go great with some Spice Cake Designer Series Paper.

And here is a super clean and simple card I made to showcase the fabric flowers. The sentiment from the Fabulous Florets stamp set suits this card perfectly, don’t you think?

If you want to learn how to create these fun fabric flowers or would like to win one of my Fabric Flower Project Kits, then make sure to check out my Tutorial & Giveaway post! I’ve extended the giveaway, so the last day to enter is now Sunday, November 13th! Don’t miss out on your chance to win!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week of Spice Cake! I had so much fun creating all these fabric-y projects and I hope you try making and using fabric flowers on some of your next projects!

Spice Cake is Going To My Head…

…Well…more like Baby Moose’s head…

Yes, yes…my obsession with Spice Cake Designer Fabric has now affected my child. But in a cute way!

Baby Moose doesn’t quite have enough hair for these little hair clips I made her, but I’m ready for when her hair is long enough!

Isn’t Baby Moose just the cutest model? Of course, she always has her fingers in her mouth. But still, she’s quite the little model for me. Haha. ANYways…

As you can see, I’ve taken my Spice Cake fabric flowers from paper projects to little hair accessories for my sweet baby girl. It was so easy to make these little hair accessories. I just made my Spice Cake flowers, embellished them with buttons and crystals, then added them on to some headbands and hair clips I found at the store! Now she has unique hair accessories that I made for her myself! And I know plenty of new moms with baby girls that I’ll be creating more of these little hair pieces for! Can you say Christmas presents?! Nice!

Want to make your own Spice Cake flowers that you can turn into headbands for your little one? Then check out my Fabric Flower Tutorial post for instructions on how to create these simple flower embellishments. And don’t forget to check out my Project Kit page where you can purchase my Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit to make 18 flowers at home! Of course, you can also enter to win my Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit! Just follow the instructions on the tutorial page to enter!

Coming Up: Maybe ONE more Spice Cake project? I hope you’re not sick of Spice Cake yet! Then I’ll move on to something else…I promise!

Until next time…

Tutorial, Kit, and a Giveaway!

Do you love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Fabric, but don’t know how you could use it? Well, fret no more! Today I’ll be showing you how to make super duper easy fabric flowers that you can use to embellish just about anything! Let’s get started!

You Will Need:

  • Circle cut from your fabric of choice. The circle you cut from your fabric should be twice the size of the flower that you want to end up with. (For example, if you want a 1″ fabric flower, then you will need a 2″ circle of fabric).
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Liquid adhesive
  • Button or brad to embellish

Instructions:
Click on each image to enlarge it for a better view.

Step 1
Knot the end of your thread and do a basic over/under stitch around the edge of your fabric circle (I’m not a sew-er so I don’t know what the name of that stitch is really called, LOL). Your stitching should be about 1/8″ in from the edge of the circle.

Step 2
Once you’ve stitched around the entire circle, gently pull on the thread so that the edges gather together. I like to keep a finger in the center of the fabric as I pull the thread so it gathers nicely around my finger. Then I’ll remove my finger from the center and continue to pull the thread until the fabric has completely gathered together. Flatten it out gently so it looks like the flower in the photo below.

Step 3
Finish/Knot off the thread so the gathering doesn’t become undone. Snip any remaining thread.

Step 4
Finally, embellish your flower by adding a brad, button, or other embellishment, covering the center of the flower where the fabric edges have gathered.

And that’s that!

Easy peezy, right?! And you can seriously use these to embellish anything! Make them in larger sizes and layer them to create pins you can attach to coats, hats, or bags. Add some bling to the centers for some shiny card candy! Or throw one or two onto a gift bag or tag for some added gift-giving flair!

The beauty of this project is that you don’t need a sewing machine or any real knowledge of sewing to make these. They’re so simple and you can make quite a few in very little time.

THERE’S A KIT FOR THAT!

Want to try making some fabric flowers yourself? I’ve put together a Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit to help get you started on the fabric flower train! My kit includes pre-cut Spice Cake Designer Fabric and buttons so you can make 18 fabric flowers that you can use on your next projects! Visit my Project Kits page for details and to order your kit!

Spots of Spice Cake

Sometime last week I was walking through Bed, Bath & Beyond with hubby and Baby Moose when I happened across this fun little pillow.

As soon as I saw it, I just had to snap a quick photo because I knew the design would inspire something awesome. And it did!

I had been wanting to create a card that incorporated rosettes and some fun fabric flowers I had made (more on those later), and the pillow quickly inspired the perfect design that would let me incorporate both!

This card came together so effortlessly, it was fabulous! And the fun design of random circles went so perfectly with the rosettes and fabric flower I had made, I couldn’t have planned it! The one thing I did plan was using my current favorite Spice Cake Designer Series Paper. The different designs and colors of that paper coordinate so beautifully, I don’t think this card would have worked as well had I used anything else (though I still plan on trying…haha).

The card was actually fairly easy to make. I used my 3/4″ and 1″ circle punches to punch out some circles of Spice Cake DSP. Then I created two rosettes using the same DSP (for a full tutorial on creating rosettes, check out the November issue of my newsletter). For fun, I threw in a Spice Cake Designer Fabric flower on the card as well. It took a little arranging and rearranging to get the layout of the circles, rosettes, and fabric flower just right. But once the layout was perfect, I just adhered everything down and voila! The Thank You sentiment (from the Thank You Kindly set) in the corner just added that beautiful final touch.

I featured this card and the favor box in my latest newsletter to show off how rosettes can be used on different projects. You can see how I added a button and crystal onto the rosette on the favor box for a little fun and flair.

But I also wanted to feature my new fabric flowers, too. You can spot a brown one on my Thank You card, as well as a Pool Party one on this favor box. I created the flowers using some Spice Cake Designer Fabric. They are super easy to create and make fabulous embellishments for all sorts of projects! Want to learn how to make your own? Then be back here tomorrow for a complete tutorial!

Remember, if you sign up for my monthly newsletter, you’ll receive the latest news on Stampin’ Up! promotions as well as a new technique or project tutorial each month, like the rosette tutorial in this month’s newsletter. To join my mailing list, just fill out the form in the right sidebar!

Coming Up: Be back TOMORROW for a complete, step-by-step tutorial on how to create the fabric flowers I used on today’s projects, the introduction of my newest project kit, AND a fabulous giveaway! You won’t want to miss it!

Until next time…
