No Sew Fabric Wreaths for Valentine’s Day

I’m back! I’m back!  You may have been thinking I had extended my Christmas vacation, but you were wrong 😀 I’ve been busy this past month prepping some new projects and polishing new ideas for My Paper Moose. And I’ve also prepared some fun and exciting projects to get you ready for Valentine’s Day! So let’s get to it!

I’m excited to share today’s projects with you. I had been brainstorming this project since before Christmas, and it was so exciting to bring it to life! You see, I absolutely love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Fabrics. But a seamstress I most certainly am not. Sewing machines scare me and I can barely manage to do a running stitch by hand. But I wanted to utilize those gorgeous Designer Fabrics in some way without the need to sew. So I thought, why not make some wreaths? And I did!

I fell in love with the More Amore Designer Fabric in the new Spring Catalog, so I decided to create some Valentine’s Day wreaths. The first one I made was this smaller one. This size wreath would be great to make in multiples and hang in windows or on cabinets. I only made one, so I decided to try framing it instead.

Now, there was a tiny bit of sewing involved on this wreath. But only for creating the fabric yo-yo flowers, and all that’s required to create those is a running stitch. So even the most novice of sewers out there could handle that! For a tutorial on creating a fabric yo-yo flower, check out MY TUTORIAL. For the center of the flowers, I used a designer button, a glimmer brad, and a Designer Builder Brad from the Spring Catalog.

It took me a while to come up with a design I was happy with (for those of you who follow me on Facebook, THIS was the project that kept stumping me for days!). But I’m happy with the final result. I used some More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper to cover the photo mat in the frame and complement the wreath. It’s the perfect piece to decorate your mantel for Valentine’s Day or perhaps a dessert table at a Valentine’s Day party.

After making that small wreath, I still had plenty of Designer Fabric left over. So I decided to make a little bit larger of a wreath, and this time I made sure this one involved absolutely no sewing of any kind!

For this wreath, I utilized more of the products from the More Amore Product Suite in the Spring Catalog. I used the Hearts A Flutter Framelits Dies to create a cute little banner to go across the wreath. I love the different shapes you get with that die set. They are absolutely perfect for creating fun banners like this! I just die cut the shapes from some sheets of More Amore DSP and Pool Party card stock for an instant banner in less than two minutes! The heart outline is from the Hearts A Flutter stamp set and the “love” sentiment is from the Tiny Tags set.

Now, the flowers are my absolute favorite thing about this wreath. And like I said before, there was absolutely no sewing involved! The large fabric flower was created using a strip of More Amore fabric and a Jumbo Sticky Round. The center of the flower is a Designer Builder Brad.

I also used a builder brad for the center of that Primrose Petal flower. I attached an In Color Dahlia to the center of that builder brad for a little variety. The flower itself, along with the smaller white flower, were made using the new Creped Filter Paper from the Spring Catalog. I dyed the larger flower using Primrose Petal ink.

I hope you enjoyed this first project for the new year! And stay tuned as I’ve got plenty more projects to share in the coming days!

“I love these! All your ideas are fabulous. I would use these to decorate gift bags and purses, baby headbands for my new nieces, embellishments on blankets, a pin for my jacket – I think I need to buy another box of fabric!”

Congratulations to Shelley for winning this My Paper Moose giveaway! I’ll be contacting you shortly for your shipping information so I can get your project kit on its way!

Thanks to everyone who left comments, too! I was sad I didn’t get more participation. I guess my fabric flowers were more exciting to me than to everyone else…LOL. But hey, that happens, right? So a HUGE thank you to those who were awesome and left a comment for me!

Flowery Finish

Okay, so this will be my last post obsessing about Spice Cake Designer Fabric flowers. I promise! I just used some of the remaining flowers I had made to whip up these two cards as a couple more examples of how you can use the flowers as embellishments.

Of course, the flowers go great with some Spice Cake Designer Series Paper.

And here is a super clean and simple card I made to showcase the fabric flowers. The sentiment from the Fabulous Florets stamp set suits this card perfectly, don’t you think?

If you want to learn how to create these fun fabric flowers or would like to win one of my Fabric Flower Project Kits, then make sure to check out my Tutorial & Giveaway post! I’ve extended the giveaway, so the last day to enter is now Sunday, November 13th! Don’t miss out on your chance to win!

Spice Cake is Going To My Head…

…Well…more like Baby Moose’s head…

Yes, yes…my obsession with Spice Cake Designer Fabric has now affected my child. But in a cute way!

Baby Moose doesn’t quite have enough hair for these little hair clips I made her, but I’m ready for when her hair is long enough!

Isn’t Baby Moose just the cutest model? Of course, she always has her fingers in her mouth. But still, she’s quite the little model for me. Haha. ANYways…

As you can see, I’ve taken my Spice Cake fabric flowers from paper projects to little hair accessories for my sweet baby girl. It was so easy to make these little hair accessories. I just made my Spice Cake flowers, embellished them with buttons and crystals, then added them on to some headbands and hair clips I found at the store! Now she has unique hair accessories that I made for her myself! And I know plenty of new moms with baby girls that I’ll be creating more of these little hair pieces for! Can you say Christmas presents?! Nice!

Want to make your own Spice Cake flowers that you can turn into headbands for your little one? Then check out my Fabric Flower Tutorial post for instructions on how to create these simple flower embellishments. And don’t forget to check out my Project Kit page where you can purchase my Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit to make 18 flowers at home! Of course, you can also enter to win my Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit! Just follow the instructions on the tutorial page to enter!

Coming Up: Maybe ONE more Spice Cake project? I hope you’re not sick of Spice Cake yet! Then I’ll move on to something else…I promise!

Until next time…

Tutorial, Kit, and a Giveaway!

Do you love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Fabric, but don’t know how you could use it? Well, fret no more! Today I’ll be showing you how to make super duper easy fabric flowers that you can use to embellish just about anything! Let’s get started!

You Will Need:

  • Circle cut from your fabric of choice. The circle you cut from your fabric should be twice the size of the flower that you want to end up with. (For example, if you want a 1″ fabric flower, then you will need a 2″ circle of fabric).
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Liquid adhesive
  • Button or brad to embellish

Instructions:
Click on each image to enlarge it for a better view.

Step 1
Knot the end of your thread and do a basic over/under stitch around the edge of your fabric circle (I’m not a sew-er so I don’t know what the name of that stitch is really called, LOL). Your stitching should be about 1/8″ in from the edge of the circle.

Step 2
Once you’ve stitched around the entire circle, gently pull on the thread so that the edges gather together. I like to keep a finger in the center of the fabric as I pull the thread so it gathers nicely around my finger. Then I’ll remove my finger from the center and continue to pull the thread until the fabric has completely gathered together. Flatten it out gently so it looks like the flower in the photo below.

Step 3
Finish/Knot off the thread so the gathering doesn’t become undone. Snip any remaining thread.

Step 4
Finally, embellish your flower by adding a brad, button, or other embellishment, covering the center of the flower where the fabric edges have gathered.

And that’s that!

Easy peezy, right?! And you can seriously use these to embellish anything! Make them in larger sizes and layer them to create pins you can attach to coats, hats, or bags. Add some bling to the centers for some shiny card candy! Or throw one or two onto a gift bag or tag for some added gift-giving flair!

The beauty of this project is that you don’t need a sewing machine or any real knowledge of sewing to make these. They’re so simple and you can make quite a few in very little time.

THERE’S A KIT FOR THAT!

Want to try making some fabric flowers yourself? I’ve put together a Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit to help get you started on the fabric flower train! My kit includes pre-cut Spice Cake Designer Fabric and buttons so you can make 18 fabric flowers that you can use on your next projects! Visit my Project Kits page for details and to order your kit!
