Paper Crafts Magazine Giveaway Winner

I know, I know. This post is like two weeks late! I feel horrible that I didn’t write this post for ya’ll sooner. But the day my giveaway ended also happened to be the same day that the Moose Family left for a much needed vacation. So of course I was frantically running around the house packing last minute (as usual) and wasn’t able to write this post. Then I was on vacation and too busy to do much of anything work related (which is the point of vacation, right?). And THEN when we got back from vacation last week, I had to take care of TONS of work for my Scraps of Life Etsy Shop!

*Inhaling deeply*

So NOW I’m making the time to get this post, and couple of others, written for you!

Anyways, enough of the jibber jabber. Although this post is late, I did pick my giveaway winner on the proper date. I announced the winner on my Facebook page, so if you missed that announcement, just goes to show that you should be following me on Facebook! Haha. The winner of a 1-year subscription to Paper Crafts Magazine and a free copy of Card Creations Volume 10 was Lisa! Here was her winning comment:

“Congratulations!! Love love love that card! Simple is always the best! “

I was so excited that Lisa’s comment ended up being the winner. She’s one of my most active Facebook followers and I love interacting with her there. So congratulations Lisa! Enjoy your goodies!

Coming Up: A quilt-y card for my Mother-in-law!

Until next time…

As Seen in Paper Crafts Magazine

That’s right! The card you are about to see was just published in Card Creations Volume 10, a special issue from Paper Crafts Magazine! I submitted this card to the magazine late last year and received news in December that it was chosen for publication. It was super exciting news for me, especially because that was the first time I had ever submitted anything to a magazine. And now I can finally see my work, and my name, in print! I feel so famous…haha…well, kinda.

And now, to the card! This Christmas card was inspired by those yummy holiday treats, the Candy Cane!

I just love how such a simple design can result in such a stunning and beautiful card!

I used the dotted border image and “merry” sentiment from the Tiny Tags set and punched out the design using the Jewelry Tag Punch. The shimmery twine is from Paper Source. I was actually originally planning on just leaving the card with just the stripe pattern, but I’m so glad I added the twine and little tag. That little touch just makes the cards that much more Christmas-y!

To create the stripe pattern, I used 1/2″ strips of Cherry Cobbler card stock that I adhered to a Whisper White base. TIP: To get the stripes spaced out evenly, start by adhering your first strip where you want it. Then use another strip as a spacer, placing it in between the strips that you are gluing down so that each stripe is evenly spaced. Much easier than measuring and marking out your spacing, especially with diagonal stripes like these!

You can find my project on 117 of the magazine. So make sure to go pick up your copy of Card Creations Volume 10 and look for it among the many other gorgeous cards that were chosen for this special issue. Don’t have a copy? Not to worry because I’m giving away a copy right here on my blog!

Paper Crafts Magazine is my go-to magazine for inspiration and ideas, and I want to share it with you!

Sorry that I’m posting this a day late! Prior obligations have messed with my work schedule! Don’t you hate when that happens?

Anyways, I’ve got the name of the winner for my Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Project Kit! The winner is…

*Drumroll*

“I love these! All your ideas are fabulous. I would use these to decorate gift bags and purses, baby headbands for my new nieces, embellishments on blankets, a pin for my jacket – I think I need to buy another box of fabric!”

Congratulations to Shelley for winning this My Paper Moose giveaway! I’ll be contacting you shortly for your shipping information so I can get your project kit on its way!

Thanks to everyone who left comments, too! I was sad I didn’t get more participation. I guess my fabric flowers were more exciting to me than to everyone else…LOL. But hey, that happens, right? So a HUGE thank you to those who were awesome and left a comment for me!

Coming Up: I’ve got some Christmas stuff heading your way! Cue that inappropriately early Christmas music!

Tutorial, Kit, and a Giveaway!

Do you love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Fabric, but don’t know how you could use it? Well, fret no more! Today I’ll be showing you how to make super duper easy fabric flowers that you can use to embellish just about anything! Let’s get started!

You Will Need:

  • Circle cut from your fabric of choice. The circle you cut from your fabric should be twice the size of the flower that you want to end up with. (For example, if you want a 1″ fabric flower, then you will need a 2″ circle of fabric).
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Liquid adhesive
  • Button or brad to embellish

Instructions:
Click on each image to enlarge it for a better view.

Step 1
Knot the end of your thread and do a basic over/under stitch around the edge of your fabric circle (I’m not a sew-er so I don’t know what the name of that stitch is really called, LOL). Your stitching should be about 1/8″ in from the edge of the circle.

Step 2
Once you’ve stitched around the entire circle, gently pull on the thread so that the edges gather together. I like to keep a finger in the center of the fabric as I pull the thread so it gathers nicely around my finger. Then I’ll remove my finger from the center and continue to pull the thread until the fabric has completely gathered together. Flatten it out gently so it looks like the flower in the photo below.

Step 3
Finish/Knot off the thread so the gathering doesn’t become undone. Snip any remaining thread.

Step 4
Finally, embellish your flower by adding a brad, button, or other embellishment, covering the center of the flower where the fabric edges have gathered.

And that’s that!

Easy peezy, right?! And you can seriously use these to embellish anything! Make them in larger sizes and layer them to create pins you can attach to coats, hats, or bags. Add some bling to the centers for some shiny card candy! Or throw one or two onto a gift bag or tag for some added gift-giving flair!

The beauty of this project is that you don’t need a sewing machine or any real knowledge of sewing to make these. They’re so simple and you can make quite a few in very little time.

THERE’S A KIT FOR THAT!

Want to try making some fabric flowers yourself? I’ve put together a Spice Cake Fabric Flowers Kit to help get you started on the fabric flower train! My kit includes pre-cut Spice Cake Designer Fabric and buttons so you can make 18 fabric flowers that you can use on your next projects! Visit my Project Kits page for details and to order your kit!

But you know what? I haven’t hosted a giveaway in a while. So why not now?

Spice Cake Love

Have you seen the new Spice Cake Designer Series Paper in the Holiday Mini Catalog? No? Then I want you to go grab your Holiday Mini and turn to page 17 and bask in the beauty that is Spice Cake because it is seriously so fabulous! And my favorite thing about it is that all of the different designs go so well together! I couldn’t decide which design to use on some cards, so I used THREE! And the results were better than I expected.

I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die to cut out some butterflies out of the Spice Cake DSP and the En Francais background stamp helped create a gorgeous background. A little bit of Hemp Twine added a perfect finishing fall touch.

I had some butterflies left over after die cutting them, so I added one onto the front of each envelope.

I loved the Spice Cake DSP so much that I decided to use some on the flap of each envelope, too. It makes the envelopes look so fancy with very little effort!

Like many of the projects you see on my blog, this card set is for sale on My Etsy Shop. But you can win this set for FREE! That’s right, FREE! I’ve donated this card set as a part of a giveaway on THIS BLOG by Abbie. But you have to enter the giveaway by end of day TODAY! So head on over to Abbie’s blog now and follow her instructions on how to enter to win these gorgeous cards. Wish you had known about the giveaway sooner? Then Like Me on Facebook or Follow Me on Twitter and stay updated on all my latest giveaways!

Coming Up: What to do with the rest of those extra butterflies? More mini cards! Look for them here on the blog next week!

Until next time…
